Emily Davis builds for the smallest screen first, on the theory that anything which survives a phone will be comfortable everywhere else. Eight years of product work at Wanderloft and Audiary taught her that the interesting decisions are the ones nobody sees: what loads first, what waits, what happens when the network drops.
